Whale Tail Cafe
Whail Tail Cafe, Lancaster
78a Penny Street, Lancaster LA1 1XN
14th June 2018 Late lunch 2.30pm
Having arrived in Lancaster for an overnight stay via train – which was delayed considerably – I followed google maps on my phone to find the Whale Tail Café. I might easily have walked past it if not, it was tucked at the end of an alley and up some stairs. It is located on the first floor of an old cheese warehouse, they have a lovely patio area outside too.
I was not disappointed though once inside, a great atmosphere, busy and a great choice on the vast menu board. Very earthy but basic, great friendly staff, although they were very busy on arrival. The Whale Tail Café has been in Lancaster for 25 years and looks like a regular eating place for many.
I ordered my food at the bar and then seated myself at a table. Due to the late time and the fact I was eating later at 7.00pm I went for hummus, olives and pitta bread. It was really tasty, simple honest food – and lots of it. Looking around at others eating, I would definitely like to come back to try out some of the other menu choices. I drank water with my meal but ordered an almond latte later.
All their delicious dishes are created using vegetarian, vegan and gluten free fresh, seasonal local produce; fair trade and organic ingredients are used where possible too. They also had a sugar free option for dessert…. Will have to visit again for that one!
Overall a lovely experience, my bill was £18.00 (I think) sorry was enjoying myself so much I can’t remember!
